Ghana ready to win the ultimate – Evans Mensah:
Winger Evans Mensah has touted Ghana’s readiness to win the 2019 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
The Black Meteors begin the competition with a clash against fellow debutants Cameroon on Friday. They will then take on Mali and hosts nation Egypt on November 11 and 14 respectively in Cairo.
“Every country in Egypt is going to play football; the group is difficult but at the end of the day, it’s your mindset and personality that you go to the field with that will determine whether you will win or lose.
“We all agree that our group is tough but we are not worried. Ours is to score and win for everyone to see we are determined. What people are saying does not matter; we the players believe in ourselves and what we can do,” Mensah, who plays for HJK in Finland said.
“We are on course; if you look at the pool of players we have, we are all very talented and everyone is ready to fight for Ghana. Myself, I cannot even wait for the tournament to start on Friday.
“It’s a good platform for everyone to make Ghana proud. We are all eager for the competition and if you look at our training, everybody is determined,” he added.
Ghana will be hoping to qualify to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games by picking one of the three slots available for Africa, having failed to make it to the global tournament since Athens 2004.
